Pekinska Patka - Plitka Poezija, Strah Od Monotonije + Singlovi (1979-1981)

Right, I've had this one waiting to be posted for a few days...

Probably the most famous punk band from Yugoslavia, and here's pretty much all their material. Starts off punk and veers into post-punk, but in a good way. Many people don't like the latter part of the album, but sod them, it's awesome!

The early part of the album is nice and loud, very punk and very awesome. It doesn't sound too much like other punk specifically, in part due to the talents of their vocalist. The latter part is more post-punk. Not many people seemed to like this, and the band kinda split up after their Strah Od Monotonija album flopped. Still, it is good, take my word for it.

Leningrad - Made In Zhopa

Russian Ska/Punk band Leningrad here. Although you can't really hear the ska or the punk over the awesome Russianness.

The album name translates to "Made In Ass", although I think after hearing it, you'll agree that it wasn't! The album starts well and continues as it begun, pretty much. Doesn't really get too same-y, either.

I don't have too much to say about the band or the album. It's just another in the legion of very, very good Yugoslavian punk albums! The band's name apparently comes from the sound a frog makes in Serbian or something. One thing about this album is that it comes from a tape, so the quality may suffer a little.

Peter And The Test Tube Babies - Totally Test Tubed

Here's a compilation album from my favourtie punk pathetique band. Most of the classics are there (although omitted is their infamous cover of Gary Glitter's "I'm the Leader of the Gang (I am)"). If I want some non-serious Oi!, you can be sure that this is my first stop! One problem is, I don't seem to have song #19, so if someone can get it to me, I'd be very greatful (and obviously add it to this post).

A.C.A.B. - Eastern Oi!

Some Oi! from Malaysia! This album's a bit of a hit-and-miss, generally; I can listen to it some of the time, but not most of the time, and certainly not all of the time. It sounds a little bit too... whine-y for Oi! really, but oh, well. Still, if you want some different-sounding Oi!, listen to this album. This band eventually broke up and reformed into some indy band or sommet.

Cock Sparrer - Rarities

Although this album includes a lot of material found in other albums, Cock Sparrer's "Rarities" album is still pretty cool. This album sounds a fair bit "rawer" than their other albums, but that's to be expected really. A few songs are repeated towards the end in slightly different versions.

Ramzes & The Hooligans - Git Rock

Another Oi! band, this time from Poland. One of my favourites for this year, pretty much since I found them. The only problem is I forget just how good they actually are when I haven't listened to them in a while.

Highlights of the album are certainly "Je Tak, Ty Nie" and the two "Wympijmy Jeszcze Raz" tracks, although don't be fooled into thinking that the rest of the album isn't excellent as well.

This band certainly has their own style, so again, it's Oi! that doesn't really get boring.

Pasi - Neko Treba I Radit

One of the best from Croatia are Pasi (incidentally, all the Yugoslavian punk currently added has been from Croatia, and Pasi and Paraf both come from Rijeka!), and this album is pretty damned awesome!

According to the back of the case, the album's supposed to be in a different order, but this is the order it came in, and it seems to work in this order, so what the hey, let's keep it like this.

The album itself contains 2 Western covers - a cover of some song by some pop-punk band which I can't seem to find about it, and a cover of Buzzcock's What Do I Get (for some reason named "What The I Get in the file... although not in the song itself!). The covers are alright, but where the band really holds its own is in their original material.

One setback of this album, like the previous KUD Idijoti album, is that it's too damned short, which means to get my Pasi fix, I have to listen to another album! That, and the last track isn't really a song, but oh, well...

KUD Idijoti - Demo Radio Pula (1982)

This is probably the album I'm listening the most to this summer. Frankly, it's brilliant. It opens well, carries on well, even ends well (although the last song ends abruptly mid-song... grr!)

The one downside to the album, of course, is that it's too bloody short! I listen to it, and I want more, damn it, more!

So, listen to this album, and watch this space for more of this band in the near future!

Criminal Class - Blood On The Streets

So, I don't know what to say about this album, really. On the one hand, it's a brilliant Oi! album, and typical of the genre. On the other hand, it gets a bit... same-y... When you see the track listing, you'll see why.

But now I may as well go and tell you why. You see, the thing about this album, which is sometimes awesome, sometimes not, is that about half the tracks are slightly different versions of another track on the album. When first listening to it, it may make it easier to get songs in your head. On the other hand, it may make you think you've accidentally got your playlist on shuffle.

Still, it is a good album, that part aside, and is certainly worth listening to. One of my all-time favourite Oi! albums, and I'm sure it'll be one of yours, too!

Blitz - Voice Of A Generation

Blitz are, without a doubt, everyone's favourite Oi! band. And this is my favourite of their albums.

Voice of a Generation is Oi! done well, to put it bluntly. Highlights of the album, to me at least, are the songs "Propaganda" and "Moscow", especially the former, which has to be one of my favourite songs of any band. However, that said, the whole album together is excellent. Although this is almost the apotheosis of an Oi! album, it has enough of its own unique sound (and it has a lot of this) to not get boring. It's pretty damned awesome!

The Business - Official Bootleg 1980-1981

The first non-Yugoslavian album on this blog had to of course the The Business. One of the best Oi! bands I know of.

Although this bootleg contains many well-known Business songs, it's got a much different feel to their later material, especially the earlier part of the album. It feels more younger, slightly more raw (well, it is a bootleg), and, well, just different. Even if you're not a fan of Oi!, you might want to check out this album.

Paraf - Zastave

This will be the last Paraf material I share - honest! (Unless I can get hold of a copy of their bootleg, that is...)

Zastave marks Paraf's transition from post-punk band to gothic rock, which as we all know, sounds like a terrible plan...

...But wait! Give the album a listen! It's actually pretty damned good! Probably my favourite gothic album, although that's not really saying much. But seriously, this is a great album.

Whilst listening to this album, I get some kind of sleepy vibe from it, especially around the middle of the album. It's pretty good.

So yeah, give it a listen, see what you think. Personally, it's one of my favourite-ever albums.

Paraf - A Dan Je Tako Lijepo Poceo

Paraf's first album and the (translated) namesake of this blog, so I had to start with this one. This is one of my favourite albums of all time. It's a straight-out punk album, and there honestly isn't a song on here I can say I don't absolutely adore.

Highlights of this album are too many to say. Pritanga I Vasa is my favourite song of the album, and Zivjela Jugoslavija was the first song to get stuck in my head.

That said, try out the album, and see if you like it.
